Roman’s Health Juices

Firstly a simple healthy shot with a very medicinal flavour and a more palatable, supremely healthy juice.

Turmeric Healthy Shot

Ingredients

  • ½ tsp black peppercorns
  • 2 decent sized turmeric rhizomes (each a little smaller than your little finger)
  • A similar amount of ginger
  • Half an apple (preferably organic – apples, spinach and celery are top 3 for pesticide usage and I would personally avoid ingesting too much pesticide).
  • 1 wedge lemon

Method

  1. Soak your peppercorns in just enough water to cover them overnight in a small dish.
  2. Cut your apple into manageable chunks for your juicer.
  3. Juice half of your apple chunks.
  4. Throw in the soaked peppercorns, turmeric and ginger and juice that.
  5. Put in the rest of your apple and the lemon wedge.

Super Healthy Juice

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Hemp seed
  • ½ tsp peppercorns
  • 1 large turmeric rhizome
  • 1 large chunk of ginger (2 – 3 times the amount of turmeric)
  • 2 apples
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 orange
  • 10cm section of a whole pineapple – skinned with core still in)
  • 1 medium beet
  • 1 wedge lemon

Method

  1. Soak the peppercorns as above (in a small dish covered with water, overnight).
  2. Soak hemp seeds similarly.
  3. Discard water from hempseed and rinse and drain again.
  4. Put your pineapple chunks and orange through the juicer. (If you are juicing berries, mango, ripe plums etc, this is the stage you juice them.)
  5.  Juice a few wedges of apple, put your juiced pineapple and orange pulp back into the juicer and add a bit of hemp seed and the peppercorns, keep alternating bits of the soft pulps, apple segments and seeds until the soft pulp is all processed.
  6. Keep putting through your apple wedges, alternating with bits of ginger, turmeric and hemps seed until all gone.
  7. Next put in the lemon wedge and follow with the chunks of beet
  8. Finish off with putting through the bits of carrot.

You now should have a fairly delicious and VERY healthy juice. Watering it down a little will aid in absorption and prevent too much of a sugar spike. The remaining pulp is great for composting and in fact a great addition (paying sympathetic attention to the flavour of the constituents) to muffin/cake mixtures to add bulk and moisture. The pulp from a ginger, apple and carrot juice is AMAZING for using in muffin production for example.

“Every afternoon, whatever I have at hand, beets, carrots, ginger, whatever. I juice, literally, every single day. And on the road, I try to find fresh juice wherever I can.”
