Some final thoughts

I recently read “From Poison Arrows to Prozac”. Rejecting all western medicine out of suspicion/”naturephilic” views is counter to sense and science. Medicine didn’t fall from the skies like some Kubrickesque monolith. WE researched and designed it according to our needs. I fully accept that capitalism is diverting medicine via profit rather than, well, medicine. But that does not invalidate modern medicine.
That said, likewise, herbal medicine has many uses. The VAST majority of our drugs are either extracts from the world around us or based upon such. Our knowledge is based upon our examination of the material world around us, the mechanisms of the body – over which we have a degree of control according to state of mind, diet and exercise.
Holistic has become a dirty word IMO for 2 reasons:
One, a holistic approach will not seek refuge in expensive and patented drugs immediately and is therefore less profitable. Big pharma plays dirty. Undermining holistic medicine works very much in the shareholders interest.
Two, people are far more likely to jump on a wagon than research. As such, disinformation becomes rife as do unthinking followers building their actions more on faith than fact.
The truth is this: Holistic – adj – characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole. TRUE holistic medicine leaves no stone unturned. That includes western interventionist medicine.
There is nothing more powerful than a self reliant and educated mind. It is on you to be so.
